Relax and unwind
Relax in the nature
For nature lovers, hikers, and cyclists, Lanka is the perfect starting point. Within five minutes, you'll be at the edge of Dwingelderveld National Park. Here, you'll find expansive heathlands, small ponds, and sand dunes. The visitor center offers a wealth of information about the flora and fauna in the area. Throughout the year, there are interesting exhibitions and educational activities for all ages. Meet the shepherd with his flock of Drenthe heath sheep or spot a deer with her fawn.
In addition to Dwingelderveld, two other national parks are nearby: Drents-Friese Wold and Weerribben-Wieden. Both parks offer beautiful walking and cycling routes through varied landscapes. Enjoy a picnic in nature and be amazed by the tranquility and beauty of the surroundings.

Cycling trips
In the surroundings of bungalow park Lanka, you can enjoy great cycling. Our park is located at junction 59, which you’ll find at 't Olde Posthuus, right in front of our park. From this junction, you have direct access to many other junctions in Drenthe. As everyone knows, cycling in Drenthe is a real pleasure! Two cycling routes we recommend:
Round trip Dwingelderveld, Anserdennen & Radio Observatory (24 km)
Junctions: 59 - 54 - 57 - 56 - 86 - 83 - 32 - 58 - 59
Turn left at our park towards Ruinen. Via the hamlet of Engeland, you will pass the Nature Monument information center, the Ruinen Sheepfold, the Anserdennen, and the Radio Observatory. From here, follow the straight cycling path and the road over the heath back to 't Olde Posthuus.
Heath loop through Dwingelderveld (21 km)
Junctions: 59 - 58 - 32 - 43 - 83 - 57 - 54 - 59
From 't Olde Posthuus, cycle along the Commissaris Cramerpad towards the heathlands of Dwingelderveld. Along the way, you will pass the Ruinen sheepfold.
Drenthe villages
Via well-maintained cycling paths through forests, heathlands, and fields, you will reach the charming Drenthe villages of Vledder, Dwingeloo, Havelte, and Ruinen. These villages have a rich history and tradition, where you will find cozy shops, terraces, and restaurants.
In Ruinen, the Open-Air Swimming Pool, the Coop supermarket, and Bakery Steenbergen with delicious specialties are nearby. In Havelterberg, you can find the second-largest dolmen in the Netherlands. Diever is known for its Shakespeare Theatre and the charming Brink square.
Cozy cities
If you look a bit beyond the immediate surroundings of Bungalow Park Lanka and the village of Ruinen, you'll find yourself in a vibrant region. The surrounding cities offer plenty to explore.
Take, for instance, the capital of Drenthe, Assen. Visit the TT Circuit, enjoy an afternoon of culture at the Drents Museum, or stroll through the charming city center.
The city of Emmen in Drenthe is also worth a visit. Known as the "Butterfly City," Emmen offers many unique shops you won’t find elsewhere. Looking for entertainment? A day at Wildlands is a must!
Groningen is a lively student city with charming shops, vibrant culture, cozy terraces, and great restaurants. Don’t miss the Groninger Museum, featuring a variety of exciting exhibitions.

The Sheepfold in Ruinen
Witness the departure or return of the sheep herd. Around 10:00 a.m., the shepherd leaves with his dogs and sheep for a day on the heath, returning around 4:00 p.m. Both moments are a unique experience.

Only 300 meters away, you’ll find the 17th-century restaurant 't Olde Posthuus, a charming spot with a terrace and playground where you can sit down in a cozy ambiance for a delightful bite or drink.
